Sunfish City Oni Transformation Guide

The Oni is a horned demon transformation: pale skin, long silver hair, fangs, claws, large chest and butt, dressed in a dark teal yukata. She is female only, mountain strong, and feared by people and fish alike. Unlike most transformations, the Oni cannot be brewed in the Lab. She is obtained through a ritual called the Verse of Three Cups: pouring sake into three ancient stone bowls at three places, on three specific moons, all by night. The third pour is the one that changes you. This guide walks through every requirement, in the order you will run into them.

1. THE TABLET IN ROISIN'S LIVING ROOM

The ritual is described on a small framed tablet hanging just insidethe door of Roisin's beach house. The tablet has three faces depending on the body you are wearing and what you know.

If you are not in your own body (possessing someone via theSunfish Cuff, lifeswapped into an NPC, or fused inside anotherperson through the Witch's amulet), the tablet reads as a prettydecorative plaque. The script looks nice. The body you wear doesnot recognise If you are in your own body but do not know how to read foreignwriting, the script stays opaque. Roisin will mention hergrandmother brought it from Sakaide, and that no one she knewcould read If you are in your own body AND you have the Foreign Languageskill (sometimes called Languages), the tablet becomes legible. You can read the verse. The verse names the three cups, threemoons, and three places.

Reading the verse opens the Verse of Three Cups in your quest journal. The journal is for flavor; the cups themselves do not check whether you have read the tablet. A player who already knows the requirements can perform the ritual without ever reading it. The tablet exists so the game can teach you the ritual in the first place.

  • Note: the verse does NOT spell out the time of day window, the sake requirement,
the Submissive trait blocker, or the Strength gate.
Those are learned by trying, failing, and reading the bowl's response.

2. THE SAKE BOTTLE

Every pour requires one Sake Bottle. Sake Bottles are sold at the Shady Shop for $25,000 per bottle. They stack, and there is no daily purchase cap.

Sake has three uses outside the ritual itself: Pour at a ritual bowl (the primary use). Drink the bottle from your inventory at any time. While not Oni, this is flavor only and has no stat effect. While Oni, drinking a bottle applies the Demon's Cup buff for six in game hours. Gift to an NPC. NPCs who already accept drink gifts treat sake as a high tier drink.

Sake is consumed only when the bowl actually accepts it. See the "who keeps the bottle" notes under each cup for details.

3. WHO CAN PERFORM THE RITUAL

Every cup checks the same five baseline conditions before it will even consider the moon and the sky. If you fail any of them at any cup, the ritual will not proceed, and the bowl will tell you (in different ways) why. You must be in your own body. If you are possessing Roisin through the Sunfish Cuff, lifeswapped into any NPC, or fused with someone via the Witch's amulet, the stone will not recognise you. The bowls show as inert; the demon "is asleep here." The sake is not consumed. You must have the Gym Bunny trait. The verse calls for "the body that does not sleep." The bowls read empty and silent to anyone who does not bear that mark. Sake is not consumed. You must NOT have the Submissive mental trait. Whatever sleeps in the stone does not bow. If you carry the Submissive trait, the bowl rejects you outright. Sake is not consumed. Your base Strength must be at least 150. This is your trained Strength: the stat number you have built up through training, gym work, and labor. Bonuses from traits and skills do NOT count toward this threshold. If your trained base is below 150, your hand will tremble; the bowl is too heavy in a way you cannot yet lift. Sake is not consumed. You must have at least one Sake Bottle in your inventory. Without sake there is nothing to pour. The bowl simply looks empty and wanting.

Only AFTER all five of these conditions are met does the bowl care about the sky.

4. THE THREE CUPS

There are three bowls. Each one needs its own moon. All three need the same time window: night, meaning between 22:00 and 06:00. Pouring during morning, afternoon, or evening always fails as "the wrong sky."

A wrong sky pour DOES consume your sake. That is intentional. The verse is meant to be read carefully before you start spending bottles.

4.1 THE CUP OF IRON

Location: The volcano summit. A heavy iron rimmed stone bowl
wedged into the black rock near the caldera edge.
Moon: New Moon ("when the sky shows no light at all").
 Time: Night (22:00 to 05:59).
On success: Sets the Cup of Iron flag. Consumes one Sake Bottle.
Time passes thirty minutes. The sake meets the iron,
and heat rolls up your arms.

4.2 THE CUP OF TIDES

Location: The Hidden Grove behind Roisin's beach house. The
grove is only reachable AFTER you have discovered
Roisin's side path from the beach at least once.
A small overgrown shrine sits in the dunes, with a
weathered torii half buried in salt grass, and a
shallow stone basin under a wooden canopy.
Moon: First Quarter ("when the moon shows half her face").
 Time: Night (22:00 to 05:59).
On success: Sets the Cup of Tides flag. Consumes one Sake Bottle.
Time passes thirty minutes. The sea sighs through
the dunes and a second weight settles in your bones.

If you have never walked Roisin's side path, the grove does not appear on the beach house map. You cannot reach the bowl. The ritual is blocked until you find the path on your own.

The grove card also only appears when you are in your own body. To any inhabited body other than your own, the dunes look like dunes.

4.3 THE CUP OF DEMONS (the transformation)

Location: The Mountains Hot Spring. A deep stone bowl set into
the rocks beside the spring, with hot mist rising
around it and two fangs carved into its rim.
Moon: Full Moon ("when the moon is round and full").
 Time: Night (22:00 to 05:59).
Order gate: You must already have completed BOTH the Cup of Iron
AND the Cup of Tides. If either is unfinished, the
bowl resists you. The demon stirs but is not yet
strong enough to surface. Your sake is NOT consumed
on this attempt; the player keeps the bottle.
On success: Consumes one Sake Bottle. Plays the transformation
              cutscene. You become Oni.

The two earlier cups can be done in either order. Only the Cup of Demons cares about ordering.

5. THINGS THAT WILL BLOCK YOU

In summary, the ritual will refuse you if any of these are true at the moment you click the bowl:

 - You are possessing Roisin, lifeswapped into an NPC, or fused
into another person through the Witch.
 - You do not have the Gym Bunny trait. (Note: most other full
body transformations strip Gym Bunny when applied, which means
being a Pharaoh, Witch, Kitsune, Anubis, Ojou, or any other
appearance overriding transformation will indirectly block you
   here.)
 - You carry the Submissive mental trait.
 - Your trained base Strength is below 150.
 - You have no Sake Bottle in your inventory.
 - The moon is wrong for the cup you are at.
 - The time of day is not within the night window of 22:00 to
06:00. Daytime and evening pours always burn your bottle.
 - For the Cup of Demons specifically: you have not yet completed
both the Cup of Iron and the Cup of Tides.

And for the Cup of Tides only:

 - You have never walked Roisin's side path, so the Hidden Grove
does not exist on your map.

Things that do NOT block you:

 - Not having read the riddle tablet. The tablet teaches you the
ritual, but the bowls do not care whether the player has read
it. If you happen to know the moon and time and cup order, you
can perform the ritual without ever reading it.
 - Story menu state, quest journal state, or any other meta progress.
 - Having previously held some other transformation and lost it.
The bowls only check what you currently carry.

6. SAKE ECONOMY (HOW BAD MISTAKES HURT)

Some failures cost you a bottle, some do not. Knowing the difference saves money.

Failures that DO NOT consume sake:
   - Wrong body (possessed, lifeswapped, witch absorbed)
   - No Gym Bunny trait
   - Submissive trait present
   - Strength below 150
   - Cup of Demons attempted before both prior cups completed
 Failures that DO consume sake:
   - Pouring at the right bowl on the wrong moon
   - Pouring at the right bowl in the wrong time of day window

Wrong sky pours also advance time fifteen minutes. The ritual still takes time even when the sky refuses you, because sake was poured.

Because a single bottle costs $25,000 at the Shady Shop, it is worth double checking the moon phase before each pour. A careless player can easily spend $100,000 or more learning the windows. A patient player can complete the ritual on three bottles total.

7. TIMING IN PRACTICE

The moon cycles through eight phases, one per in game day. You can wait up to seven days for the right phase if you arrive on the wrong one. The night window each day is from 22:00 to 06:00, so the active window opens late in the evening and runs through the small hours.

A clean, efficient run looks like this:

 1. Reach Roisin's beach house at least once, walk the side path,
and let the Hidden Grove discovery fire. (Time of day does
    not matter for this step.)
 2. Train Foreign Language to read the tablet, then read it. Now
the Verse of Three Cups is in your journal.
 3. Make sure you have Gym Bunny, no Submissive trait, and a base
trained Strength of at least 150.
 4. Buy three (or more) Sake Bottles at the Shady Shop.
 5. Watch the moon on your sidebar. On the New Moon night, climb
    the volcano and pour Iron.
 6. On the First Quarter night, walk to the Hidden Grove and pour
    Tides.
 7. On the next Full Moon night, climb to the Mountains Hot Spring
    and pour Demons.

The third pour ends with a cutscene. When you come out the other side, you are Oni.

8. WHAT THE TRANSFORMATION DOES TO YOU

The Oni is a heavy transformation. It rewrites your body, locks several normally fluid traits, removes some categories of risk, buffs some kinds of work, debuffs others, and rewires the fishing and mining minigames. Below is everything it changes.

8.1 ON TRANSFORMATION (one time effects)

The moment the Cup of Demons cutscene completes:

 - You gain the Oni physical trait.
 - Your appearance is locked to the Oni look: female, pale skin,
silver hair, large curved black horns, pointed ears, fangs,
huge chest, large butt, dark teal yukata.
 - You lose Gym Bunny. Other muscle physique traits the
transformation strips on entry are also removed (Athletic
   Build and Fit, by default).
 - All active debuffs are cleared. Exhaustion, workout compulsion,
sexual needs, every standard penalty status drops away. Your
   POSITIVE buffs are kept.
 - The Verse of Three Cups quest completes.
 - The achievement The Sake Drinker's Awakening unlocks.

8.2 APPEARANCE AND TRAIT LOCKS (while Oni)

 - Gender is locked to female and cannot be changed.
 - Hair color is locked to Silver and cannot be restyled or
   traded away while Oni.
 - Skin tone is forced to pale.
 - Chest size is set to huge.
 - Butt size is set to large.
 - Genitals are set to vagina.
 - The Submissive mental trait cannot be added by any means
while Oni. Trade, training, story events, gifting, every
path that would normally apply it refuses.
 - Other Tier 2 (body overriding) transformations are mutually
exclusive with Oni in both directions. Applying any of them
removes Oni; applying Oni removes any of them. Tier 2
transformations include Witch, Pharaoh, Kitsune, Anubis,
Ojou, and the other major appearance overriding forms.

8.3 TRAIT TRADING

 - The Oni trait CAN be moved into your personal trait storage,
the same as any other transformation trait. Storing it
removes the body lock until you reapply.
 - The Oni trait CANNOT be stolen by NPCs and cannot be traded
away to one. No NPC trading slot will accept it.
 - The Lab combiner refuses to operate at all while you are Oni.
Whatever you slot in, the machine shrinks from your touch.
You must remove Oni (via storage or by being overwritten by
another Tier 2 transformation) before using the combiner.

8.4 EXHAUSTION IMMUNITY

While Oni, you cannot become exhausted. The exhaustion debuff is never applied no matter how long you go without sleep.

Sleep itself still works normally. You can still sleep, and sleeping eight or more hours still grants the Well Rested buff. You just never accumulate the negative side of skipping it.

8.5 JOB EFFECTS

The Oni's body is built for raw labor and is intimidating to be around. Jobs split into three buckets.

 Muscle jobs (BUFFED, +25% pay):
   - Construction Worker
   - Dock Worker
   - Bouncer
   - Fitness Trainer (custom job multiplier)
 Customer facing jobs (DEBUFFED):
   - Maid (hourly) takes a 25% pay cut.
   - Maid Cafe (custom job) takes a 25% pay cut on the shift
payout AND has its customer count cut in half AND has
tips cut in half. The cafe is the sharpest drop because
all three multipliers stack on the same shift.
Sex work (FILTERED to dominant only):
   - Prostitute, Pornstar, Stripper, and Brothel Worker scenes
drop any explicitly submissive variants. Allowed client
preferences narrow to Dominant, Rough, and Kinky.
   - Brothel clients whose scene requires a Submissive player
are removed from the day's available client pool.
   - Round choices in scenes that frame the player as
submissive (kneel, beg, obey, surrender, follow their
lead, passive reception, and similar) are filtered out
     of the menu.
   - If filtering would leave a scene with zero options, the
game keeps the original set rather than soft locking the
     shift.
 Other jobs (unchanged):
   - Anything not in the muscle or customer service buckets
pays out at the base rate.

8.6 FISHING

Most fish flee the Oni's presence. The catch pool is rewritten.

 - Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic fish never appear. Their
   weights are zeroed.
 - Legendary fish appear at three times their normal weight.
 - Mythical fish appear at three times their normal weight.
 - If the spot you are fishing at has no Legendary or Mythical
fish defined for the current time and weather, the catch
falls back to trash only. Small ponds, mundane shorelines,
and other low tier spots become trash farms for Oni.
 - The treasure roll is skipped entirely. Oni cannot pull
treasure out of the water no matter the rod, the spot, or
   the bait.
 - The trash roll is unaffected. You can still catch trash
   normally.

While the Demon's Cup buff is active, the Legendary and Mythical boosts multiply further (see section 8.8).

8.7 MINING (PASSIVE BONUSES)

Independent of any buff, simply being Oni grants two permanent mining advantages.

 - Max mining energy is raised by 20 (from a base of 100 to
120 while Oni). Each mining swing costs one energy, so you
get more swings per energy bar.
 - Hazard tiles in the minesweeper grid are reduced. The
hazard weight is multiplied by 0.75, so roughly 25% fewer
   hazard tiles spawn per floor.

These bonuses apply only to the mining minigame. They do not affect Construction job pay (Construction's pay buff lives in section 8.5).

8.8 THE DEMON'S CUP BUFF (DRINKING SAKE WHILE ONI)

When the player is Oni, drinking a Sake Bottle from the inventory grants the Demon's Cup buff for six in game hours (360 minutes). Drinking another bottle while it is active refreshes the timer to a full six hours; the buff does not stack.

Demon's Cup adds, on top of all the passive Oni effects:

 - +25% money on earned payouts.
 - +20% trade chance (trades land easier in the trade system).
 - +40 max mining energy. With the +20 passive Oni bonus, the
cap goes from 100 to 160 while drunk on sake.
 - 50% mining hazard reduction. This multiplies into the
passive Oni 0.75x for a combined 0.375x hazard rate.
 - Legendary fish weight tripled again (on top of the passive
triple). Mythical fish weight doubled again on top of the
   passive triple.

8.9 MISCELLANEOUS

 - Base stat seed for the trait: when Oni applies, the stat
baseline associated with the form is Strength 200 and
Dexterity 200. Existing trained stats are not erased; the
Oni form just leans heavily into these two.
 - Fitness Trainer "transform bonus" pay multiplier is 1.25x
(a separate buff from the section 8.5 hourly figure; both
   apply in the same shift).
 - Oni shows up in the Lazulash Star artist gallery as a full
   body portrait once unlocked.

9. KNOWN ISSUE IN VERSION 0.30.5

In version 0.30.5, the Cup of Demons pour at the Mountains Hot Spring has a bug. When all conditions are satisfied and the player clicks "Pour sake into the bowl" for the third cup, the ritual succeeds in the background (your sake is consumed and the Cup of Demons flag is set) but the transformation cutscene does not always play. The player ends up still standing at the Hot Spring with nothing apparently having happened.

WORKAROUND: press the browser Back button after the failed pour. Coming back to the Hot Spring through the Back navigation forces the transformation cutscene to fire correctly, and the Oni transformation completes as intended.

You only need to do this once, on the third cup. The Cup of Iron and Cup of Tides pours are unaffected. After the cutscene finishes you are Oni and the rest of the systems described in section 8 take effect normally.

This document covers what you need to know to obtain the Oni transformation and what to expect afterward. Pour carefully. Watch the moon. Mind the sake.
